How to reuse items & speed up content creation with Koantic

Maintaining consistency throughout a course can be redundant without setting some default styles in advance. From reusing pages to setting your default fonts, there are many ways you can speed up content creation in Koantic while also maintaining consistency.

This post will show you how to use Koantic’s features to their fullest capacity in order to speed up content creation.

The following topics will be covered: (click a topic to skip straight to it)

Using Themes in Koantic

Using Themes help speed up content creation by letting you reuse styles, colors and fonts throughout your course. They’re also helpful for maintaining consistency in a collaborative environment since they’re available to all users sharing the same account.

How to create your own theme

There are two options in the View Themes tab: Default Themes and Custom Themes.

In the View Themes tab, under Default Themes you will see a list of our pre-made themes. If you or a collaborator sharing your account has already created a theme, you will also see a list of Custom Themes. To create your own theme, choose a theme from either list and click Copy. This will create a copy of that theme that can be customized to your liking.

How to Customize an Existing Theme

This is the same as creating your own theme from an existing theme. In the View Themes tab, select the theme you’d like to customize under the Default Themes or Custom Themes section. To customize a theme without affecting existing courses using that theme, click Copy. A new theme will then be added to your list of Custom Themes.

How to Edit an Existing Theme

In comparison to customizing a theme, when editing a theme your modifications will apply to all existing courses using that theme. For that reason, only your own Custom Themes can be edited. To edit a Custom Theme, head over the the View Themes tab and expand the Custom Themes section. Hover over the title of the theme in question and click the Edit icon.

How to Delete or Rename Themes in Your Library

To permanently delete a theme from your library, hover over its title and click the red X. Before deleting a theme, make sure there are no courses using that theme as those courses will all be affected. Since they belong to you and your team, only Custom Themes can be deleted.

To rename a theme, hover over its title in the View Themes tab, click Edit icon and then Details. You can change its title and basic properties in the Details section. Since they belong to you and your team, only Custom Themes can be renamed.

How to Reuse Elements to Speed up Content Creation

Several types of elements can quickly be reused to create a more efficient course creation experience.

Text Boxes and Circles

Once you’ve designed your box or circle with the ideal color, border, shadow and font styling, click save as new template.

Click customize if you’d like to edit a pre-styled item without affecting its look in existing courses.

Click edit only if you’d like to change the look of that box or circle in all courses.

WARNING: If a template is modified, all interactions that uses it will be automatically updated.

Reusing Interactions

While you cannot reuse interactions individually yet, you can reuse a page containing interactions which can speed up content creation. In addition, by reusing a page you can essentially copy all interactions from that page and modify them independently.

Fonts & Styles (for Blank Pages only)

Set your fonts and styles once and then reuse them throughout your course to save time and maintain consistency. This can be done in the theme customization section. To get there click the View Themes tab on the left panel and then click the last option Customize. Next, click Copy to modify your fonts without affecting any existing courses using that same theme. To modify the fonts of that theme and apply the change to existing courses, click the Edit button instead.

When adding fonts to your course, you can either select one font to be applied to your entire course or select different fonts for different sections of your course (menu, navigation, header, blank pages etc.).

To select the fonts used in the body of your course’s pages, choose Blank Pages from the list of options.

If you plan on using the same font throughout your course, simply add your font to the top Default option. This apply the font you choose throughout your course.

There are two options when it comes to revisiting existing pages: reuse a page or copy a page.

1. Reusing Pages

The Reuse Page option lets you reuse a page from a previous course. This option is best when you don’t plan on modifying the new page since any modifications made to that page will be applied to all existing courses containing that page.

To reuse a page:

  1. Click the + tab on the left side panel.
  2. Select Use an Existing Page from the list of options.
  3. Select the course that contains the page you’re looking for and click Next.
  4. Select the page you’d like to reuse and click Next.
  5. Click Reuse Page .

A reusable copy of that page will be added to your course.

2. Copying pages

Consistency is key when it comes to eLearning content creation. Let’s say you want to reuse an existing page without affecting existing courses. In that situation, the copy a page option comes in handy. By copying a page you are free to modify the page’s content without worrying about changes being passed down to existing courses.

To copy a page:

  1. Click the + tab on the left-side panel.
  2. Select Use an Existing Page from the list of options.
  3. Select the course that contains the page you’re looking for and click Next.
  4. Select the page you’d like to reuse and click Next.
  5. Click Copy Page .

A copy of the selected page will be added to your course.

Reusing Quizzes

Whether you’re reusing the questions, format, or styling, reusing quiz pages can be a huge time saver. To reuse a Quiz page, simply follow the same steps you would when reusing a page (see steps above).

Using Page Templates

The new Templates feature in Koantic makes it quick and easy to take advantage of ready-made page layouts.

How to use a template in your course:

  1. Click the + tab on the left side panel.
  2. Select Add template from the list of options.
  3. Choose a template from the list of options and click Add Page on the bottom right tab.

A new page will be added to your course containing the template you chose. From there you are free to customize it as you see fit.
